A Little Cosmological Humor

A student sought out the the master to ask him this question: "What is the world?"

The master answered:  "The world is a vaste plain crossed by mountains and surrounded on all sides by a great ocean and the sky is a vault over it all."

The student thought about this and then asked the master:  "What does the world rest upon?"

The master answered:  "The world rests on the back of four great elephants, one at each of its four corners."

The student turned to go but turned back to ask the master:  "What do the four great elephants stand upon?"

The master answered: "On the back of a great turtle."

The student turned again to go but as he reached the door a thought occurred to him and he stopped.  As he started to turn back he voice of the master answered the question that was in the student's mind before he could ask it:  "It's turtles all the way down!"
